Composition:

Each 100 ml contain:

Amikacin sulfate 16.69 gm
(equivalent to amikacin base 12.5 gm)

Properties:

Amikacin,like the other aminoglycoside antibiotic, act on susceptible bacteria presumably by irreversibly binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit thereby inhibiting protein synthesis. It is considered abactericidal concentration-dependent antibiotic. Its activity is most effective against Gram Negative Bacteria (pseudomonas, Escherichia coli, proteus, salmonella, klebsiella, Enterobacteria, etc.) and Gram positive bacteria (Staphylococcus ,Streptococcus,etc.) Amikacin is not degraded by the most of enzymes, which inactivate the other aminoglycosides, for which the micro-organisms that are resistant to the (gentamicin, erythromycin, kanamycin, tetracycline,) seem precisely very sensitive against Amikacin.

Target Species :

Equinenot intended for the production of food for human consumption.

Indications :

Treatment of :

  • Osteomyelitis & septic arthritis (neonates) caused by Salmonella spp. and R.equi.

  • Septic arthritis (adult) caused by Staphylococcus spp.

  • Staphylococcal cellulitiscausedbyStaphylococcusaureus& Staphylococcus intermedius.

Dosage and administration:

Route of administration:

IV or IM injection.

For whole product :

1 ml of product /10 kg.b.wt

twice daily for the first day and once daily for the next 2-3 day.

Warning and percuation:

  • Aminoglycosides should be used with caution in patients with neuromuscular disorders ( eg.Myasthenia gravis) due to their neuromuscular blocking activity.

  • Because aminoglycosides are eliminated primarily through renal mechanism , they should be used cautiously, preferably with serum monitoring and dosage adjustment in neonatal or geriatric animals.

Contraindications:

  • Not intended for slaughter for human consumption.

  • Not administered in animals hypersensitive to aminoglycosides.

  • Amorphous and ototoxic action of amikacin may be potentiated by association with diuretics and/or ototoxic drugs.

  • Associating with other aminoglycosides or with polymyxin or colistin increases the risk of kidney and otevestibular damage.

  • The association of amikacin with anesthetics and/or muscle relaxants may result in a blockage of neuromuscular transmission.

Adverse effects:

  • Nephrotoxic effect ( tubular necrosis).

  • Ototoxicity (8th cranial nerve toxicity).

Withdrwal time:

Not applicable.

The product should not be administered to horsesraised for food production purposes.

Storage condations:

  • Store at a temperature not exceeding 30°C and used immediately after opening.

Carton box containing treated soda-lime type II amber glass vial contains 50ml or 100ml solution for injection with bromobutyl rubber stopper and aluminium / PET Plastic flip off cap with outer label and an inner leaflet
