COCCI-D
W. S. P.
ANTI-COCCIDIALPOULTRY
COMPOSITION:
Each 100 gm contains:
Sulphadimidin Sodium 86.00 Gm (equivalent to 80 Gm sulphadimidin base).
Diaveridine HCl 9.15 Gm (equivalent to 8 Gm Diaveridine base).
Excipients up to 100.00 Gm
MODE OF ACTION:
Sulphadimidin as all sulfonamides are bacteriostatic antimicrobials that interfere with the biosynthesis of folic acid in bacterial cells; they compete with para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) for incorporation into dihydrofolic acid. By replacing the PABA molecule in dihydrofolic acid, they prevent formation of folic acid required for nucleic acid synthesis and multiplication of the bacterial cell. Sulfonamides are effective only in cells that must produce their own folic acid; mammalian cells do not synthesize folic acid, but get it from outside sources.
Diaveridine active against the protozoan enzyme dihydrofolate reductase. Dihydrofolate reductase is a small enzyme that plays a supporting role, but an essential role, in the building of DNA and other processes. It manages the state of folate.
ANTICOCCIDIAL SPECTRUM:
Act against Eimeria spp.
PROPERTIES:
COCCI-D is a combination of two sulphonamides (Sulphadimidine & Diaveridine), which have synergistic anti-protozoal action against coccidia (Eimeria spp.).
COCCI-D is indicated for the treatment of coccidiosis in poultry (Broilers, Turkeys and Ducks).
