COMPOSITION:

Each 100 Gm contains:

colistin sulphat 600,000,000 I.U.
Excipient s.q.f. 100 g.

MODE OF ACTION:

Colistin is polycationic and has both hydrophilic and lipophilic moieties. These poly-cationic regions interact with the bacterial outer membrane, by displacing bacterial counter ions in the lipopolysaccharide. Hydrophobic/hydrophilic regions interact with the cytoplasmic membrane just like a detergent, solubilizing the membrane in an aqueous environment. This effect is bactericidal even in an isosmolaric environment.

ANTIMICROBIAL SPECTRUM:

Act against Gram-ve bacteria.

PROPERTIES:

Colistin (polymyxin E) is a polymyxin antibiotic.
Colistin is a mixture of cyclic polypeptides colistin A and B.
Colistin is poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract.
Colistin is effective against most Gram-ve bacilli and is used as a polypeptide antibiotic.
Colistin concentrates in the intestinal tract hence it maintains its potency in this tract even in the presence of food, digestive ferments, enzymes, puss and puss - forming organisms, and necrotic tissues.
Therefore, Colistin is an ideal drug for treating a variety of the gastrointestinal tract infections.
Colistin is a highly selective antibiotic for prevention and treatment of infectious enteritis caused by gram-ve bacteria especially Salmonella, Colibacillus, Pseudomonas, Shigella, Heamophilus and Aerobacteria in poultry and large animals.
Colistin in therapeutic doses it is non-toxic.
It has some growth-promoting effect.

INDICATIONS:

Gastro intestinal tract infection, E Coli infection and Salmonellosis. In poultry and calves.

Colistin is an antibiotic with bactericidal activity against gram-negative bacteria including Enterobacter, E.coli, Klebsiella, Salmonella, Pasteurella, Bordetella, Shigella, Salmonella and most strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

TARGET SPECIES:

chickens, turkeys, Rabbits, pigs, Lambs, Calves.

DOSAGE AND MODE OF ADMINISTRATION:

Poultry:

1,000,000 IU/ liter of drinking water for 3 -5 days (1gm Colistin sulphate /6 liter drinking water) or 100 000 I.U. of colistin /kg b. weight/day.

Calves:

40000 I.U. / kg body weight in drinking water for 3-5 days (0.5 gm Colistin sulphate / 75 kg body weight).

WARNING& PRECAUTIONS:

Keep out of reach of children.
For Veterinary use only .
To be used by Veterinary Prescription Order.
Restricted dose must be followed .
The medicated drinking water should be prepared fresh daily.
During treatment use the medicated water as only source for drinking.
The drinking fountains and feeders have to be cleaned and disinfected in order to prevent reinfections .
Not for use in hens from which eggs are produced for human consumption.
Do not administer to horses, cattle, rabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters as it can disturb G.I.T. flora.
