  • Excipients up to 100 Gm.

MODE OF ACTION

Spiramycin reversibly bind to the 50 S subunit of bacterial ribosomes, resulting in blockage of the transpeptidation or translocation reactions, inhibiting protein synthesis and subsequent cell growth. It is primarily bacteriostatic, but may be bactericidal against more sensitive strains when used in high concentrations. Spiramycin also accumulates in high concentrations in the bacterial cell.

ANTIMICROBIAL SPECTRUM:

Act against Gram +ve bacteria .

PROPERTIES:
  • Spiramycin is a systemic antibiotic related to macrolides group.

  • At tissue concentrations Spiramycin is bactericidal.

  • Spiramycin well absorbed from GIT and quickly diffuses to the target tissue (lung–air sac–ovaries) .

  • Spiramycin is highly concentrated in the respiratory tract and other tissues and macrophages.

  • Half-life period of spiramycin is between 6.2 and 7.7 hours.

  • The effect of spiramycin is significantly prolonged than other macrolides.

  • Spiramycin excreted through bile and urine.

  • Spiramycin act by interfering with Protein Synthesis.

  • Spiramycin is most commonly used to treat Mycoplasma infections due Mycoplasma gallisepticum, Mycoplasma synovia and Clostridium perfringens in poultry.
